EVENT: DOING BUSINESS ACROSS ASIA 21 & 22 JANUARY 2016 – SINGAPORE
Doing Business Across Asia: Legal Convergence in an Asian Century
Singapore Academy of Law is organising an international Conference on 21 and 22 January 2016 in Singapore. The Conference will bring together policy makers, regulators, members of the judiciary, and top leaders from the business and legal communities in the region and beyond to debate and to provide critical insight to these discussions.
Benoit Le Bars, Founding Partner, will take part on day one (21 January 2016).
Panel 3: Legal Convergence in an Asia – Learning from global Harminisation Initiatives.
Given the imperatives of legal convergence to trade and business growth, this panel will examine how legal convergence of business laws can be expedited in an Asian context. This panel will consider whether legal convergence can be brought about by simply adopting global or western initiatives? Or, should Asia consider the creation of a fresh set of legal rules suited to Asian requirements? Or, does the solution lie in a combination of both – adopting global templates of convergence which are then adapted to suit Asian requirements? Panellists will examine what legal solutions are desirable and workable and what are the common threads of convergence that run across these different harmonisation attempts.
